My First Cards Using Copics!

Good morning peeps,
The sun is shining & it's lovely & warm here already, just how I like it :)

Today I feel like a grown up as I've made my first cards using copics at last lol. I had made a right mess of trying to use them previously despite following some fab tutorials but this blending in circles wasn't working for me, it didn't with the inks either so I decided to colour as I do with the DI's and use more of a painting action and I found it worked much better for me.

I used to struggle with colouring hair but after much practice I love colouring it with my inks as you can give it so much depth and shading so I was determined to find hair colours I liked with the copics. I'm happy'ish' with colouring hair & skin with the copics after lots of help and advice from some lovely friends (thank you x) I'm not doing so well with finding colours for clothing I'm happy with, but fingers crossed that will come in time.

As my main worry was sussing the hair and skin I've inked up a stamp that I've had for ages and neglected but thought it was perfect to practice colouring them as the main focus is lots of gorgeous hair.
Ingredients -
Image - Fragile Heart, Hannah Lynn
Medium - copics
Papers - Craft Creations & Prima
Flowers - Prima & The Works
Sentiment - Magnolia
I've sparkled all the flowers and butterflies but as I took the photo outside in the garden it isn't showing up well.

I'm entering my card in the following challenges -
Sketch Saturday - fab sketch, A Spoon Full Of Sugar - flower power, Top Tip Tuesday - wrap it up with ribbon, Make It Monday - anything goes, Dream Valley - stamp something, Whoopsi Daisy - ribbons & lace, Stamp Something - something sentimental, Sweet Stampin - ooh la la, 2 Sisters - anything goes, Hanna & Friends - lace & pearls

My next card is a quickie I made yesterday as I realised it was the end of the month and I hadn't made my 3 Christmas creations this month for the Hjerteboden's Juleblogg. My first 2 creations can be seen HERE
I'm not overly happy with this one at all as I've again used copics & I tried matching the colours of my image to the gorgeous paper but as you can see the colour of the scarf and gloves went a bit wrong lol.
As well as sussing out these copic colours I need to find a way I like of colouring large plain areas of colour such as the little hAnglars coat.
Ingredients -
Image - hAnglar, won in the lovely Elaine's candy (thanks hunny x), corner stars - Magnolia
Medium - copics
Papers - Bo Bunny
Flowers - Wild Orchid & Kort & Godt
Large wooden snowflake - Quixotic Paperie
Sparkle - crystal glamour dust
I'm entering this little card in the following challenges -
Sketchy Colours - fab sketch, Hjertebodens Juleblogg - 3rd Christmas creation for May, Christmas Card Challenges - snowflakes,  Corrosive - Oh Christmas tree

I think I'm going to have to shut my eyes for half hour, it's taken me nearly 3 hours to do this post as I've a banging headache, just what I need as I've a DT card to make today grrrrrrr lol.
Thanks for stopping by

  51. wow your card is fantastic. You have the hair shading just right and i cant believe it is the first time you have coloured with copic's.

The only advice that I can give you about copics is to use 3 or 4 colours in the required shade. I start with the darkest colour and then go down in increments of 2.

  57. Oh sweetie... you have a FABULOUS start with your copics!!! These are as beautiful as ever :)

You mentioned about coloring in circles... I say 'blech' to that! You've already figured out that the 'painting action' works better especially for hair and such (it's called feathering). I wish I had something to make a video :( I would LOVE to teach coloring!!!

Have you printed out a color chart yet? Print it out on the paper you will use for your image. Color in the copics you have - when you want to match a color to your paper, you can see what it will look like.

    http://www.copicmarker.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Blank_Hand-Color_Chart_2011.pdf

There's lots of good info. there as well!

I usually start with the shadows and blend to the lighter areas, but some people do the opposite...whatever works best for you :) You are off to a great start my friend. I am so very proud of you!!!

    Lots and lots of love,
    Lori
