Hello peeps,
Thanks to all of you who entered my candy, apologies for not making it round to all of you as I'm sure you can see there was a huge amount of entry's which I'm still checking for double entry's etc and will announce the winner in the next day or two.
These next few days are going to be extremely busy for me as I need to get an extra 2 DT cards made early and posted in the DT blog, so the post can be scheduled early due to holidays as well as my other DT cards that are due this week, oh heck lol. I don't know about you but I take hours to make one little card, am I really slow or is that normal?
Today I have a mini tutorial/tips, and my
to share, and this fortnight we have a recipe for you
MINI TUTORIAL / TIPS FOR MAKING SPARKLE SHOW UP IN PHOTOGRAPHS
Today I have posted lots of piccy's as I get loads of emails asking how I get my cards to look so sparkly and as there is lots of sparkle on my ADDICTED TO STAMPS DT card I thought this would be a perfect example to show you.
I am no expert with a camera and chop many a head off lol, I don't have a light tent or a special daylight lamp, but because I love a bit of sparkle I played around with how best to make it show up in photographs.
When I photograph my cards indoors I position a reading lamp with a daylight bulb in so the light is directly shining on the card. I use a daylight bulb because you don't get that yellowish glow that you do from an ordinary household bulb, and I also use this to colour my images when natural daylight isn't good.
On this card I have added the sparkle by colouring over sweet Tilda's dress and tiara with a quickie glue pen which I allow to dry a little so the glue is no longer blue and then I've sprinkled on my beloved crystal glamour dust by DecoArt .
I've 3 examples to show you and the first one below is taken with the lamp positioned so the light is shining directly onto my card which shows up loads of lovely sparkle
The next picture below is taken with the card turned slightly away from the light so it still shows up the sparkle but not so intense
The third example below is taken outside which doesn't really show up the sparkle, it just looks bitty and rubbish to me although everything else about my card looks clearer and crisper. It looks bitty because I have used the glamour dust over a large area and on a very dark colour, if you look at the purple rose it doesn't look bitty like the dress but the sparkle just isn't showing up well in the natural daylight, although to look at the card directly in natural daylight and not in a photograph taken in natural daylight it is lovely & sparkly so for some reason the camera just doesn't pick it up.
Below is a close up of a very intensely sparkly Tilda with the light shining directly on her, she's so pretty lol
Again this one below is taken with the card turned slightly away from the lamp light
and this one below is taken outside.
I hope that makes sense and has helped the lovely ladies who wanted the info and apologies for it taking me so long to getting around to sharing these tips with you.
Moving on here's my cards ingredients -

I'm beginning to think I should stop telling Daisy Mae how beautiful she is as she's even taken to posing to look cuter for her picture to be taken lol. Just behind her on the left you can just see a tiny bit of the corner of my card which I was trying to photograph! I think she must have fantastic hearing as I shot downstairs to take some piccys when I saw her playing with Diddly in the field at the back of our garden so thought it was safe to click away, how wrong I was lol
Thanks for stopping by, and for those of us having yet another long bank holiday weekend, enjoy!

ReplyDeleteOh wow! Love her sparkly dress!! Looks gorgeous, I find the only way to get a good photo full of sprakle is to experiment each and every time! the different natual lights make for such different colours - I usually take a natural light shot inside with the flash on.. but I have to zoom in. Too close and all you get is the mystical white splash!!!

this card is so beautiful-great coloring on your sweet tilda-thanks for the tips on how you take your photos and for playing along with the creative belli "royal" challenge
ReplyDeleteAnother lovely card, Mandy! Thanks so much for sharing your photography tips too. How odd that the glitter doesn't show up when photographing it outdoors but is brilliant and sparkly under the daylight lamp. I have taken to using such a light source myself because it allows me to capture the colors so much better but I never even thought of the effect it has on the glitter.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Anniebee
Thanks for sharing Mandy, and I do so love your Cat, so cute...xxx
ReplyDeleteTHANK YOU Mandy Amazing!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThankyou Mandy for showing how you make your cards sparkle so much. I have recently bought a light tent cheap of Ebay and this has improved the focus of the cards and I light from both sides, but just can't get glitter to sparkle as much. I am going to experiment with the lighting more from your images as it clearly makes a mahoosive difference.
ReplyDeleteThanks very much for sharing. that is what I love so much about us crafters, we love to share with one another.
Love Mandy xxx
