Hello peeps,
I have been a busy girl "trying" to train this mad puppy of ours! Sit & paw, toilet training, stay etc all ticked off he's a good boy with that, but overall he is a flipping nightmare!
We are not new to having dogs we've had 2 Labrador's both rescued & needed lots of help & confidence boosting, my stunning 12 & a half stone Dogue De Bordeaux X English Mastiff who I absolutely adored (think Turner & Hooch & that was Judge), the most loving & loyal dog I've ever known my little shadow Frodo who was a Staffie, Dude who is cross Springer, Jack Russel, Terrier & goodness knows what else & is an angel, he doesn't even need to be told what to do he is just so good & only ever needs a lead when we take him shopping in Pets at Home to pick his own treats, and then there's ..............Damien Jester!!!!

Let's have a bit of followers candy shall we?
We are not new to having dogs we've had 2 Labrador's both rescued & needed lots of help & confidence boosting, my stunning 12 & a half stone Dogue De Bordeaux X English Mastiff who I absolutely adored (think Turner & Hooch & that was Judge), the most loving & loyal dog I've ever known my little shadow Frodo who was a Staffie, Dude who is cross Springer, Jack Russel, Terrier & goodness knows what else & is an angel, he doesn't even need to be told what to do he is just so good & only ever needs a lead when we take him shopping in Pets at Home to pick his own treats, and then there's ..............
Hubby absolutely adores him, but they do say love is blind lol. Jester only ever behaves for hubby which is strange!!! Hubbs won't use a Halti to stop him pulling on the lead as he says Jester "doesn't need it & doesn't like it" Apparently Jester is always a good boy up the park & across the fields!!!! Hubby seems to be the only one who doesn't need to jump around like an idiot waving an arm around and blowing the dog whistle trying to attract Jester's attention while he blissfully does exactly as he pleases and Jester most certainly "does not need to go to dog training classes" according to hubby as none of our other dogs needed to, & when I tell him Jester's meat & 2 veg is being removed to hopefully calm him down, well that sends him right over the edge & he pales significantly lol.
As I do love the naughty pup & I want to enjoy him more I've been reading countless books & articles on dog training & my plan is - forget the Halti, I'm getting him a straight jacket, employ a dog walker for when hubby is at work & I'll just walk Dude, book him a nice little holiday for at least a month in Dog Borstal & I'll collect him when he is well behaved, book him in to the vets for the removal of his bits, & make sure my last will & testament is up-to-date for when hubby sees this photo and reads my plan of action lol. There could well be hundreds of Magnolia's up for auction on ebay soon ha ha ha.
As some of you know when I'm tired I don't get grumpy I just really waffle on and become even more stupid than usual, nobody can get any sense out of me lol. I was still catching up with emails at 2am as I couldn't sleep as pins & needles in my arm were driving me mad, by 3am I was reaching for chocolate & must have nodded off eating it as it was melted on my face & chest when I woke up this morning, so choclolate really does make everything better as it cured my insomnia lol.

ReplyDeleteMandy...did I ever tell you the tale about our dog? Obviously not. Ben was a Springer Spaniel and I loved him to bits BUT he was a bloody nightmare.
ReplyDeleteOh I got him one of those halti leads, did it work? No. He would still take off at a gallop and I remember one particularly nasty episode, at 39 weeks pregnant and walking Ben on the park and right at the top of the hill he decided to take flight and dragged me on my knees all the way down the hill and half way into town! I hobbled home clutching my full belly with blood pouring from both knees and vowing to NEVER take him out again!
Sadly, he never did improve. He couldn't be left home alone, not even for 10 minutes while I popped to post a letter..he would howl constantly and then started to demolish the kitchen by chewing and ripping off the cupboard doors.
Good luck Mandy, I hope you have more success with the training than we did, because apart from being badly behaved permanently, Ben was a big softie but he really did test my patience!
Stunning card Mandy, no change there then eh?
Beautiful colours and packed full of jaw dropping detail :)
Big hugs
Elaine xxx

ReplyDeleteOMG...Mandy, that brings back memories of my Shepherd puppy! What a challenge and let me tell you....we did not win that battle!
ReplyDeleteI hired several trainers, called Bark Busters, tried puppy training classes (which she flunked) and nothing worked. We finally had to accept the fact that we cannot change this dog! Despite all the imperfections, we adored her!

Well, Mandy, I have to say, Jester does look a bit of a devil! I hope he calms down a bit, even if it does mean resorting to the chop! My hubby would love a dog, but I am allergic to all things with fur and they are as much commitment as children, and I've already got 3 of those (2 boys and the biggest kid of all is my OH!)
ReplyDeleteI did laugh at your chocolate tale, visions of you with a Dairy Milk stuck to your mush!! ;D

Oh, Mandy, if I didn't know how trying a willful pup can be I would be doubled over with laughter at your little story! I must admit that I had a good giggle over it all the same... couldn't help myself. The worst thing about dogs like your Jester is that they really don't mean to be devils and really want to please you. They just don't know how so their stubbornness gets the better of them. I think I would go for the training despite hubby's protests. A well-behaved furbaby makes for a happier family. Your card is beautiful, as always. I have posted your candy piccy in my sidebar and have my fingers crossed to win. Thanks for the grins and the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Annie
I feel the same way about our new kitten!! He's INSANE, lol!!!!

Hi Mandy, I know what you mean about dogs behaving with one person and not the other, our dog behaves with me when shes on the lead, but takes my hubby for a walk when she goes with him. She always knows when we come to a curb, but whether he keeps it up when he takes out Im not so sure. A stunning card by the way. hugs Shirleyxxxx

Mandy, Your cards are drop-dead gorgeous - I love your tales about Jester..... We have two dogs, but the youngest is an imp. For the first four years of her life I said a 4-letter word constantly....SPCA.
ReplyDelete(Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) (They also take dogs that are abandoned). I threatened her, to no end. I actually drove her up to the kennels to show her what it would be like to be homeless.....and repeated the 4-letter word. SPCA.
She actually improved after that little visit!! I think we both learned a little. Good luck with your "munster".
Your Candy is awesome!! I sure hope it finds its' way to my doorstep.
hugz, Madge

ReplyDeleteHi Mandy,
ReplyDeleteI've been following your blog for a while and love your cards but it was your dog story that finally got me to write lol, I have 3 springers so I know where your coming from , sorry but your story did make me chuckle but only cos I've been and got the tshirt the one thing I have learned it to go with the flo and not get to stressed (if that's possible) cos that seams to make them more excitable if that was possible enjoy your boy.

Lol, I can sooo relate to you. Ollie is now 15 months old and is marginally better. I've been on that field blowing the whistle whilst he merrily totally ignores me and begins going home with his play mates. Now when he does it I'll think of you and know I'm not alone.
